AdHopHTA is a research project financed by the European Commission under the 7th framework program.

The overall aim with AdHopHTA is to strength the use and importance of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) local in Hospitals.

The project includes a total of 7 work package with different objectives. OUH is responsible for work package 2: Assessing Innovations through HTA in Hospitals. This includes studies of European hospital managers need for information when they have to make decision about investment in innovative medical technologies. For this purpose a number of studies have been made: Systematic literature review, qualitative in-depth interviews and a questionnaire survey.

The final results of the project will be a handbook for the best practices in relation to the use of Hospital based HTA as decision tool including a practical tool box for the development of new and improvement of existing Hospital based HTA initiatives.

Two articles have been published in the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care based on the results of the project:

  1. GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR GOOD PRACTICES IN HOSPITAL-BASED HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT UNITS.
The article presents guidelines for working with HTA in hospitals based on experiences from Odense University Hospital and other places in Europe. Find the article here.

  2. HOSPITAL MANAGERS’ NEED FOR INFORMATION ON HEALTH TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENTS.
The article is based on a systematic review of empirical studies and concludes that different types of information  are not of equal importance to hospital decision makers when deciding about whether or not to invest in health technology. The most frequently mentioned types of information in the literature related to clinical, economic and political/strategic aspects.
Legal, social and ethical aspects were seldom considered most important. The article can be found here.
