Assessment of ”Young with diabetes – testing an app for young people with diabetes”

From September 2015 to April 2017, the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic at the Children and Youth Department, North Zealand Hospital, are testing a smartphone application for adolescents with type 1 diabetes in the project “Youth with diabetes – Testing an app for young people with diabetes” in cooperation with diabetes outpatient clinics in the Capital Region, Region Zealand and Steno diabetes Centre. Adolescents with type 1 diabetes between the ages of 14- 22 years will be included in a randomized clinical trial.

The app is supposed to help young people with type 1 diabetes manage the disease in the transition from child to adult. The app enables patients to search for information about their disease and how to manage it, note their data, set up reminders, chat with other young people with diabetes and contact their therapists. The aim is to provide the patients with greater knowledge and confidence and thereby improve disease management and quality of life.

CIMT will assist the project participants in the assessment of the project, that i.a. includes an economic analysis and a qualitative survey of staff satisfaction.

The assessment is expected to be finished in the middle of 2017.
